Rochester, Minn. – Two La Crosse Loggers earned spots on the 2016 Northwoods League North Division All-Star Game Roster. The Northwoods League announced earlier today that Loggers’ shortstop Mason McCoy (Iowa) and pitcher Mitch Stalsberg (Winona State) will be joining the best players in the league at the 2016 Northwoods League All-Star Game in Kenosha. Griffin Conine (Duke) was also selected to the 2016 Home Run Challenge, to be played before the All-Star Game.

Mason McCoy has had a stellar season following his 2015 campaign that earned him the Northwoods League MVP Award, the Rawlings “Big Stick” Award, and the Loggers’ Team MVP Award. This season, Mason has batted .269 with 35 hits and 3 home runs in 31 games. Adding to the numerous team and league records that he broke last season, McCoy has topped three Loggers’ career records this season already. In his first game since arriving in La Crosse from Iowa, Mason put up 3 hits against the Express including the a single game team record two triples. The triples put him at six for his career, the most of any Logger. He topped the team career doubles and runs records last Sunday with a single and two runs scored against the MoonDogs. He now has 27 doubles and 101 runs for his career.

Mitch Stalsberg has been the highlight of the Loggers’ pitching staff this season. In 29.1 innings of work this season, Stalsberg leads the Northwoods League with 50 strikeouts. Mitch started out the season in the bullpen, but after recording 16 strikeouts in 7 innings over his first 3 appearances. Field Manager Brian Lewis made the decision to put Mitch in the starting rotation, and it has worked well for the Loggers so far. Since the change, Mitch has sported a 2.41 ERA, averaging 1.5 strikeouts per inning.

The All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday, July 20th at Historic Simmons Field at 7:05. Gates open for the contest at 6 pm. The Home Run Challenge is scheduled for the day before, July 18th. The Northwoods League will announce the participants for that on Wednesday, July 13th.
