But, they could not keep the Stingers’ offense from cracking the scoreboard. Greg Lambert (Southern Illinois) doubled to left field, scoring 2 runs for Willmar.

Wollersheim was taken out with no outs in the 4th inning. Taylor Blatch (Florida State) inherited 2 baserunners, but did not let either of them score, maintaining the La Crosse lead.

The relentless Stingers kept the Loggers from running away with the game. Luke Becker (Kentucky) walked to lead off the bottom of the 6th. After a wild pitch moved him to 2nd base, he scored on a single up the middle by Travis Wacker (Oklahoma State). Tyler Smith (Pepperdine) followed him with a double that scored Wacker. An error by La Crosse centerfield Lars Nootbaar allowed Smith to score, cutting down the La Crosse lead to two runs before Lorenzo Hampton Jr. (California) was able to shut down the inning on the mound.

Willmar got a run off Hampton Jr. in the 7th, but Dave Smith (Long Beach State) finished the game from the middle of the 8th out for the Loggers on the mound for his 2nd save of the season.
