La Crosse, Wisc. – Griffin Conine (Duke) hits another home run and Zach Kesterson (Duke) pitches 6 innings of shutout baseball for a 3-1 win over the Duluth Huskies.
After Mason McCoy (Iowa) reached on an error by Huskies’ third baseman Tyler Duex (St. Scholastica), Griffin Conine put the Loggers on the board with his Northwoods League-leading 14th home run of the season.
Kyle Plantier (UC-Santa Barbara) led off the 4th inning with a single. He scored from 3rd base four batters later on a line drive single to right field by Gavin Johns (UCLA).
Brock Rude (UW-La Crosse) pitched 2 scoreless in his 2nd appearance of the season. Dave Smith (Long Beach State) gave up a run on a RBI single by Casey Moses (Texas Wesleyan) but was able to end in the threat for his 5th save of the season.
Zach Kesterson pitched very well in his first start since July 5th. He earned the win (2-4) for the Loggers. Zach pitched 6 innings, all scoreless, on 4 hits. He walked 2 batters with 3 strikeouts.
Ryan Tapini (Creighton) took his second loss (3-4) to the Loggers. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 3 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits. He walked 4 batters.
La Crosse wins two in a row, moving up to 17-11 in the 2nd half (34-30 overall). Duluth falls to 8-21 in the 2nd half (26-39 overall). With the St. Cloud loss tonight versus Mankato, the Loggers now trail the Rox and MoonDogs (tied) by a game and a half. The Huskies stay in La Crosse for the final showdown tomorrow night at 5:05.
