LA CROSSE, WI – Just last night, the La Crosse Loggers clinched their first win of the season. With a new series underway for the weekend against the Waterloo Bucks, the Loggers were hopeful to make it two straight. However, after multiple lead changes, the Bucks come out on top tonight 6-4.

Making his first few appearances strictly at the plate as a Logger DH, the right-hander from Nova Southeastern, Derik Beauprez, took the mound on Saturday night. Holding the Bucks scoreless through four innings, Beauprez allowed just one run on five hits and added six strikeouts through five before RHP Chris Boettcher (Indianapolis) came in for one inning of relief. Andrew Owen, a RHP from Villanova, would finish out the last three innings and pick up the loss on the night. On the other end of the scoreboard, Bucks' RHP Matthew Perea would score the win.

Logger bats continued to produce, but not enough to boost them past the Bucks' explosive offense. Some Logger offensive highlights include a 3-for-5, including a RBI, night at the plate for Yahir Gurrola (North Florida) and Ryan Mantle's (Jefferson CC) 2-for-4 night at the plate, including a double. Multiple other Loggers added hits to the team total of eight, but it seem that they could not string enough together to add runs to the scoreboard.

The La Crosse Loggers will finish up with their six-game homestand tomorrow night against the Waterloo Bucks. Sunday's first pitch is set for 5:05 PM. Gates will open at 4 PM. It is National Cancer Survivor Day, as we will celebrate everyone who struck out cancer. Sundays also mean "Baseball Bingo" with Kwik Trip, so the first 500 fans will receive a bingo card to play with a chance to win great prizes.
