LA CROSSE, WI – Looking to have another explosive night offensively, the Loggers were given a rude awakening by the St. Cloud Rox. Starting an hour and a half late due to some heavy storms moving throughout the area. The first pitch was finally thrown at 8:35 PM. The result would be the Rox coming out on top 3-0.
Getting the start on the mound tonight was LHP Miles Sandum (San Diego). Only running into some trouble in the top of the second inning allowing three runs on three hits, Sandum would end the night allowing three runs on five hits and striking out six. Unfortunately, this performance would not be enough as he was handed the loss dropping him to 0-2 with a 5.39 ERA on the season. On the other side of the scoreboard, Rox pitchers kept the Logger bats at bay. RHP Dominic Austing would score the win and LHP Brent Killam would come in to get the save.
Although it was a quiet night at the plate for the Loggers, two players had solid performances. David Villar (South Florida) went 3-for-4 on the night and Grant Judkins (Iowa) went 2-for-4. The Loggers would compile seven hits as a team, but it seemed that just when they were about to strike, the Rox took care of business. After a night of offensive explosions the night before, the Loggers struggled to make contact as 11 total Loggers were strikeout victims.
The Loggers will look to bounce back as they go on a three-game road trip before returning to The Lumberyard on Tuesday, June 20 against the Eau Claire Express. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM. It is "PAINT THE PARK PURPLE" with the ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION, which will include in-stadium specials for anyone wearing purple. Tuesdays also mean "LA CROSSE TRIBUNE TWOsdays", so clip out the 2-for-1 ticket offer in the TWOsday Tribune!
