LA CROSSE, WI – The game the night prior had ended in a slugfest, but tonight the defenses were the stars of the show. With both offenses only producing 11 hits combined, starting pitchers battled it out until the very end. The only run scored in the game came from a dropped third strike with a throwing error by Loggers' catcher, Korey Lee. The batter would make it to second and then be batted in by a RBI single resulting in a La Crosse Loggers 0-1 loss to the Willmar Stingers.

Despite getting the loss, RHP Derik Beauprez (Nova Southeastern) threw an outstanding game. In 7.0 innings of work, Beauprez allowed one run (unearned) on six hits and, impresively, struck out nine. This outing would drop his record to 2-2 on the season, but improve his ERA to 2.75. Relief appearances were made by Pat Kenny (Regis) who pitched 1.0 inning allowing no runs on one hit and collecting one strikeout and Charlie Fletcher (William & Marry) who allowed no runs on no hits while striking out two in 1.0 inning. LHP Nick Lackney would get the win after pitching a shutout, allowing just three hits, and striking out eight Loggers. RHP Calvin Coker secured the save.

The Loggers' offense was extremely quiet tonight, as Stinger pitchers took care of business. Just three Loggers had hits tonight. Those three being Nick Kahle (Washington) going 2-for-3 and Luke Rasmussen (Long Beach State) along with Kennie Taylor (Duke) both going 1-for-4 at the plate.

The Logges will now travel to Willmar to face the Stingers in game two tomorrow night and then have a two-game series at Mankato before returing home for a two-game weekend home series against the Eau Claire Express. On Saturday, July 15 there will be a post-game FIREWORKS EXTRAVAGANZA presented by AMERICINN! "Happy Hour" with HOWIE'S ON LA CROSSE will also be taking place from the time gates open at 5:00 PM until the first pitch set at 6:05 PM! See you at The Lumberyard!
