LA CROSSE, WI – Getting set for a two-game weekend series against the Willmar Stingers, the La Crosse Loggers were looking to go on a roll. The team has yet to win three games in a row all season, but there are hopes that the streak starts tonight with a win. What started out to be a pitchers' duel through four innings, quickly turned in favor of the Stingers after a three-run double in the top of the fifth inning and the Loggers would not be able to recover as they lose 2-5.
RHP Cody Ebert (Columbia College) has seen many starts in a Loggers' uniform this 2017 summer season. Ebert would get the start again tonight and pitch 6.0 innings allowing three runs on four hits with four strikeouts. Unfortunately, this would hand him the loss as he drops to 3-4 on the season with a 6.15 ERA. RHP Mason McMahon (UW-La Crosse) would pitch 3.0 innings of relief allowing two runs on two hits with one strikeout. On the opposing side of the scoreboard, RHP Gus Varland would score the win and RHP Alex Reyes would get the save.
The Loggers' offense tallied seven hits, but were not able to string enough together to produce runs. The leaders at the plate tonight were Kennie Taylor (Duke) going 2-for-4 and Jeremy Ydens (UCLA) went 2-for-4 with two RBI thanks to his first homerun of the season that he blasted over left field fence in the bottom of the seventh inning, which would be the only runs for the Loggers in the 2-5 loss to the Stingers.
The Loggers will have a rematch against the Stingers tomorrow evening at The Lumberyard starting at 5:05 PM. It is Tribute to Root Beer Floats Night, which includes $5 bottomless cups of root beer floats! It is also La Crescent Town Night/La Crescent Youth Baseball Night!
