LA CROSSE, WI – Make that four in a row that the Loggers have now won. A team that had failed to gather a three-game winning streak is now on a roll with four wins one after the other. Today was a busy day for baseball as the La Crosse Loggers had a home and home doubleheader with the Rochester Honkers. The day would start out in Rochester for a game at 12:05 PM, which resulted in a 7-0 Loggers' win. The night would conclude with the Loggers hosting the Honkers, which would result in a 7-3 Loggers' win after a solid game of baseball.
The star of the night would be RHP Mason McMahon (UW-La Crosse). McMahon shined on the mound tonight for the Loggers. In 6.0 innings of work, he allowed just two runs on five hits and, impressively, struck out nine Honkers. This stellar performance would earn McMahon the win making him 2-2 on the season and improving his ERA to 6.18. Relief appearances were made by RHP Charlie Fletcher (William & Mary) and RHP Grant Ford (Nevada). The Loggers would hand RHP Manny Armendariz just his second loss this season.
Along with fantastic pitching, the Loggers' offense also came to play at The Lumberyard tonight. Leading the way at the plate were Kennie Taylor (Duke) going 2-for-4 with two RBI, Jake Hirabayashi (UCLA) going 1-for-3 with two RBI, and Garrett Christman (Butler) going 2-for-4 with three RBI, partially thanks to a two-run blast over the log cabins in right field.
The Loggers will now play two games in Thunder Bay, Canada before retuning to The Lumberyard on Saturday, July 29. Hopefully the Loggers will continue their winning ways and come back to La Crosse on a six-game winning streak. It is "Tribute to Special Olympics" Night with a FIREWORKS EXTRAVAGANZA presented by Kwik Trip following the game! Saturdays also call for "Happy Hour" with HOWIE'S ON LA CROSSE starting when gates open at 5:00 PM. See you at The Lumberyard!
