LA CROSSE, WI – Your La Crosse Loggers held on to win against the St. Cloud Rox tonight at The Lumberyard. The final score was Loggers 9 and Rox 7. For the second night in a row, the Loggers jumped out to a big lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Rox made a late push to cut the lead down to just two for the Loggers, but it wouldn't be enough to qualify for the win. With this win, the Loggers successfully swept the Rox. This improves their record to 30-37 on the season and 16-17 on the second half with just four games remaining.
Getting the start and the win tonight on the mound for the Loggers was RHP Mason McMahon (UW-La Crosse). McMahon pitched 5.0 innings allowing two runs on three hits with seven strikeouts. This impressive performance pushes him to 3-2 on the season with a 6.95 ERA. RHP Charlie Fletcher (WIlliam & Mary) and LHP Johnny Croley (Reinhardt) combined for 3.0 innings of relief allowing five runs on seven hits with one strikeout and one walk. To close the game, RHP Chris Boettcher (Indianapolis) would come in to get the save in the top of the ninth allowing no runs on one hit with one strikeout. Rox's RHP Nick Morreale would be handed the loss.
The Logger bats behind the nine run and 11 hit night were Garrett Christman (Butler), player of the night, going 4-for-5 with one RBI, Korey Lee (California) going 2-for-4 with one RBI, Jorge Gutierrez (Texas A&M) going 2-for-4 with a two-RBI triple, and Dashon Moore (South Suburban College) going 2-for-5 with a two-RBI doubIe.
The Loggers now get set for a home and home series against the Waterloo Bucks. On Friday, August 11, the Loggers will play their final home game of the 2017 season. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM. The night will end with a bang as there will be a post-game FIREWORKS EXTRAVAGANZA presented by Midwest Dental! Fridays also call for "Happy Hour" with HOWIE'S ON LA CROSSE!
