ROCHESTER, Minn. — With the baseball season fast approaching, the La Crosse Loggers and the Northwoods League are proud to announce that the Boys and Girls Club of Greater La Crosse has been selected to receive a Share the Glove equipment grant, in conjunction with Rawlings Sports and the Northwoods League Foundation.

The Northwoods League Foundation (“Foundation”) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that serves as a vehicle to transform a shared passion for baseball into positive change and support for communities. The Mission of the Northwoods League Foundation is: To utilize the game of baseball to enrich the quality of life for children and families with an enduring and caring focus on Northwoods League communities.

In support of this mission, and as part of the Northwoods League’s 25th Season Celebration, the Foundation will be awarding twenty (20) equipment grants, each with an approximate retail value of $2500, to youth baseball and softball organizations across the twenty (20) communities in which a Northwoods League Affiliate currently operate

Through an application effort spearheaded by BGCGL athletics director, the Foundation grant will go to support eight baseball teams between the ages of 9 and 12 years old.

“With our Club being a non-profit, we can sometimes find it difficult to be able to supply new equipment to some of our younger teams when it comes to items such as catcher’s gear, helmets and bats,” Bernhardt said in the application. “We would certainly be able to utilize the equipment included for this year’s Northwoods League “Share The Glove” initiative as this grant would directly impact our 2018 Boys & Girls Club Baseball teams.”

The BGCGL will be recognized on-field during the La Crosse Loggers’ home game on Sunday, June 10th.

“We’re very honored to be the recipient of the “Share the Glove” grant,” Bernhardt said. “Any time we have an opportunity to apply for a grant like this, it’s always beneficial to a non-profit like ours.”
