THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO – The Thunder Bay Border Cats used a fifth inning grand slam to power them past the visiting La Crosse Loggers 6-2 on Tuesday night at Port Arthur Stadium in Thunder Bay and even up the four-game set at a game apiece.

After neither team scored in the first, the hosts put a pair on the scoreboard in the second inning off of Loggers starter Grant Judkins (Iowa) via two hits to take the early 2-0 lead.

The score would stay that way until the bottom of the fifth when Thunder Bay loaded the bases with one out before Billy Cook took a 1-2 offering from Judkins over the left field wall for a grand slam to put the Cats up 6-0 through five complete.

Thunder Bay starter Alexander Nolan cruised from there, tossing seven shutout innings and limiting the Loggers to just two hits.

La Crosse did get on the board in the ninth when Harrison Freed (Butler) blasted his fourth home run of the summer, a two-run shot.

These same two teams will resume this four-game set on Wednesday by playing a day-night doubleheader.  Game one will commence at 10:05 am (Central) and game two will be begin at 6:05 p.m. before the Lumbermen return home to host the Mankato MoonDogs on Thursday.
