DULUTH, MN – The La Crosse Loggers completed a two-game sweep of the host Duluth Huskies on Wednesday night by defeating the Huskies 8-3 in front of 1,499 fans at Wade Stadium.
The Logger offense wasted no time getting started in this one as they jumped on Duluth starter Andrew Stout for four runs on five hits in the top of the first including RBI’s from Shane McGuire (San Diego), Harrison Freed (Butler), Korey Lee (Cal) and Donta Williams (Arizona).
La Crosse starter Ryan Anderson (Nevada) settled in right away and cruised through five quality inning in his first start, limiting Duluth to just one run on four hits while striking out five to earn the victory.
Duluth would cut the lead to 5-3 in the seventh when they plated two runs off of reliever Stephen Knapp (Bellevue) but the Lumbermen responded with three more in the eighth powered by a two-RBI triple from Lee and another RBI from Williams to put he Loggers up 8-3 before Hunter Davis tossed a scoreless ninth to secure the victory.
The Loggers tallied nine hits on the night led by two-hit nights from Braiden Ward (Washington), Nick Lewis (South Alabama) and Lee. Freed’s 22-game hit streak did come to an end with his 0-2 night in which he scored a run, drew a walk and drove in a run.
La Crosse will now return home to host the Eau Claire Express on Thursday night at the Lumberyard. Gates open at 6 p.m. on Mascot Olympics Night, presented by Dairy Queen of Onalaska and the first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
