Loggers sign trio of Arizona Wildcats

La Crosse, Wis. – The La Crosse Loggers are happy to announce the signing of three players from the University of Arizona to their roster for 2020. Returning for his third season in La Crosse will be infielder Kyson Donahue, joined by outfielder Mac Bingham and first baseman Blake Klassen.

Kyson Donahue will be a redshirt freshman for the Wildcats in 2020, but will be in his third season for the Loggers after joining as a high school senior in 2018. Donahue is a 6-foot-3 infielder that will see significant time at shortstop for Arizona during the spring season. The Honolulu, Hawaii native continued to develop in his redshirt season last spring, playing behind 2019 MLB Draft selections Nick Quintana (No. 47 overall pick to the Detroit Tigers) and former Logger Cameron Cannon (No. 43 overall pick to the Boston Red Sox) on the left side of the Wildcats’ infield. Donahue displayed his versatility for the Loggers last season, making multiple appearances at all four infield positions in 49 games played. The left-handed swinging shortstop hit .256 in 160 at-bats last summer, collecting nine doubles, two triples, and one home run while scoring 32 runs and driving in 20 RBIs. Donahue displayed outstanding discipline at the plate in 2019, drawing 38 walks and posting a .403 on-base percentage. In 2018, the Arizona commit appeared in 28 games for La Crosse where he hit .229 and became the first player born in the 21st century in Loggers franchise history.

Joining Donahue at the Lumberyard in the summer of 2020 will be freshman outfielder Sean “Mac” Bingham. Bingham attended Torrey Pines High School in San Diego, CA, where he hit .356 for his career, adding 12 home runs, and also ran for more than 3,000 yards with 44 touchdowns for the football team. Mac was selected in the 40th round of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Chicago Cubs in June, opting to join the Wildcats as part of the 11th ranked recruiting class in the nation according to Baseball America. The San Diego product is rated as the No. 85 overall prospect and No. 17 outfielder in the state of California for the class of 2019 according to Perfect Game. Bingham also hit a blistering .328 with eight doubles, six home runs, and 22 RBIs across 116 at-bats with the PUF Capitalists travel team in the summer of 2019.

Blake Klassen is a freshman first baseman and outfielder that attended JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, CA where he hit .426 with a .522 on-base percentage in his senior season. The 6-foot-2 left-handed hitter is rated as the No. 58 overall prospect and No. 5 first baseman in the state of California for the class of 2019. Klassen logged 44 games with the Wenatchee AppleSox of the West Coast League last summer, posting a .338 batting average and earning All-League First Team honors. The Arizona commit also picked up 36 runs scored, nine doubles, one home run, and 25 RBIs.

The 2020 season will mark the fifth consecutive year of Arizona Wildcats playing for La Crosse, with a total of 12 products of the Arizona pipeline since the 2016 season. Notable Loggers alumni who played for Arizona include recent Loggers Ryan Holgate, Tony Bullard, and Donta Williams, 2016 catcher Cesar Salazar who is currently in the Houston Astros organization, 2010 Logger Seth Mejias-Brean who made his MLB debut for the San Diego Padres last season, and 2017 Logger Cameron Cannon who was selected in the 2nd round of last year’s MLB Draft.
