LA CROSSE, Wis. — Led by starting pitcher Mitch Lines (Boise State), the La Crosse Loggers snapped their losing skid with a 5-1 win over the Rockford Rivets on Tuesday night at Copeland Park.
Lines scattered three hits across six innings pitched to earn the win for the Loggers (6-8), before turning the ball over to the bullpen to lock down the win. Logan Vanwey (Missouri Southern State) pitched two scoreless innings in his Copeland Park debut, while Jared Freilich (Penn State) pitched a clean ninth inning for La Crosse.
Rockford (8-6) scored first on an RBI groundout in the fourth inning, before the Loggers struck three times in the sixth inning. Matt Stinebiser (Duke) doubled and came around to score on an RBI single by Trey Harris (Crowder College), and Kyson Donahue (Arizona) drove in Harris with a RBI single and then came around to score on a double steal.
Austin Murr (NC State) and JT Thompson (Texas State) led off the bottom of the seventh with back-to-back doubles, and then Stinebiser added his second double of the night to drive in the Loggers’ final run.
Stinebiser finished 3-for-4 to raise his average to .371, while Harris raised his team-leading RBI total to 14.
The Loggers hit the road for a game in Wisconsin Rapids tonight. First pitch at Witter Field against the Rafters is at 6:35 pm.
