The La Crosse Loggers won in dramatic fashion last night against the Rochester Honkers, walking-it off in the bottom of the 9th inning.
The game got off to a fast start, with each team scoring 2 runs in the 1st inning. The Honkers followed an early rally with another one in the 4th, plating 4 against Loggers’ starter, Connor Harrison (Hawaii). Despite not having his best stuff, the southpaw was able to eat up 6.0 innings for the Lumberman, surrendering 6 runs with 4 strikeouts.
Leading the way for the Honkers offense was Dario Gomez (Nevada), who collected 2 hits and came up big down the stretch. With his team down 2 runs in the top of the 9th inning, Gomez belted a 3-run go-ahead homer to the opposite field.
The Loggers responded with some late-game heroics of their own in the bottom half, loading the bases on 3 consecutive walks. Coby Morales (Washington) tied the game with a sacrifice fly and Connor Walsh (Rice) secured the victory on an RBI walk.
The Loggers will travel to St. Cloud tomorrow to start a two-game series with the Rox. The first pitch is set for 7:05pm CT at Joe Fabor Field. Fans can watch live at https://northwoodsleague.com/watch-nwl/ or listen live at https://mixlr.com/lacrosseloggers.
