LA CROSSE, WI – The La Crosse Loggers completed a day-night doubleheader sweep of the Rochester Honkers with a 5-1 victory in the second game at Copeland Park, witnessed by a crowd of 1,737 fans.
Loggers’ starter Ashton Michek (Augustana) delivered an impressive performance, pitching 5 innings, striking out 5, and not allowing any runs.
On the opposing side, Honkers’ starter Gauge Lockhart (Colorado Mesa) pitched 5.1 innings, striking out 8 but conceding 4 earned runs.
The Loggers set the tone early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning thanks to RBI singles from Ryan Kucherak (LSU) and Luke Anderson (BYU). They extended their lead in the fifth inning with a 2-RBI single from Mathew Muira (Hawaii) and added another run in the sixth with an RBI single from Elijah Ickes (Hawaii).
The Honkers managed to score a run in the top of the ninth inning on an RBI walk by Brendan O’Sullivan (Nevada Las Vegas), but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Loggers’ solid lead. The game concluded with a 5-1 victory for the Loggers.
This win improves the Loggers’ record to 12-9, while the Honkers fall to 5-19. The Loggers will return to Copeland Park tomorrow to face the Waterloo Bucks, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
