La Crosse, Wisc. – The Loggers split todays double header against the Border Cats, winning the first game 11-10 and losing the second 8-2.
The Lumbermen struck first in todays duel of double headers, scoring 1 run in each of the first 4 innings. Despite the offensive output, they found themselves down 6-4 entering the 6th inning as Thunder Bay would score 3 runs in both the second and third innings.
The Loggers would get hot in the 6th though, as Savion Flowers (Sacramento State) would single to lead off the inning, followed immediately by a Stephen Chucka (Central Florida) 2 run homerun to tie the game. The offense continued to roll, scoring 3 more on a Geno Bianco (Mercer County CC) RBI single, an RBI walk from Kelsen Johnson (Georgia SW State), and RBI sacrafice fly bunt from Jake Redding (Hawaii) to put La Crosse up 9-6.
Thunder Bay would respond with a big inning of their own, scoring 4 runs in the top of the 7th to retake the lead. Down 10-9 with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th, Sebastian Hurtado (Central Florida) would hit a clutch single to knock in Eli Small (Kent State) force the game into extras.
Christian Banda (Orel Roberts), in his second inning of relief, would shut down the Border Cats in the top of the frame, keeping the score tied at 10-10. Logan De Groot (Northwestern) would step up to the dish, and walk the Border Cats off with a bunt, scoring Lukas Buckner (Coastal Carolina) from second after a throwing error, securing the 11-10 win in extras for the Logs.
The second game would start with Thunder Bay scoring first on a 2 run homerun in the bottom of the second. The Loggers would score their only 2 runs in the top of the third, tying the game briefly before the Border Cats scored 4 in the bottom of the frame. Thunder Bay would add 2 more in the fourth inning, bringing the score to 8-2 where it would stay for the remainder of the game.
