Make it 3 in a row for the MoonDogs as the beat the Duluth Huskies last night by a score of 4-3. It didn’t take extra innings last night as the Dogs mounted a 7th inning rally scoring 3 runs with 2 outs, to take the lead.
It was at the hands of Aaron Grant whose single scored 2 runs to tie the game and then after advancing to 3rd on a wild pitch, a brilliant coaching decision from Brad Rupert came along. With 2 strikes on Ryan Chiarelli, Grant stole home as Chiarelli went down swinging but was awarded first base on catchers’ interference.
This play caused a 15-minute delay in the game as well as caused the umpires to head to the dressing rooms for the official ruling on the play. In the end, their original call was correct and the MoonDogs had the lead.
Relief pitcher Rick Cavaiani came in the 6th for Shaun Coring who gave up only 3 hits and struck out 6 in 5 innings of work Cavaiani got the win.
Philip Springman came in to close the door on the Huskies for the 9th and did just that setting down the side in order, striking out the final batter of the game.
