Celebrity Softball Game
Before tonight’s game of big leaguers, came the game of the little guys. The Vikings Celebrity Softball game was held at Franklin Rogers Park. Former Vikings player Leo Lewis was in attendance as well as former Twins star Juan Berenguer. Other celebrities included DJ’s from local radio stations, a few television anchors, the Mayor, a few of the MoonDogs coaches and owner Joe Schwei.

The three inning game was quite the sight as the fans watched Mayor Jeff Kagermeier make a fantastic scoop at first base and also give it his all as he did a head first slide into first trying to beat out a routine grounder.

MoonDogs vs. Mallards
They say offense wins games and defense wins championships, well the MoonDogs had neither in tonight’s game. Errors told the story on the scoreboard for the MoonDogs as they lost to the Madison Mallards 9-1, while committing 7 errors and getting only 3 hits in the game.

Behind the usually unhittable and unshakable pitching of Will Krout, the defense collapsed behind him, as well as with him. Krout threw a good game going 7 2/3, but did commit two costly errors himself that put runs on the board for the Mallards. However, of the 9 Madison runs, only 3 were earned.

While the defense struggled, the offense was lacking as well. With only 3 hits in the game, 1 each by Jeremiah Piepkorn, Chris Baso and Ryan Chiarelli, runs were tough to come by, all though they did score a run in the bottom of the first after Ryan Chiarelli led of the game with his single.

The MoonDogs continue their 4-game stretch with Madison tomorrow in Madison before leaving for Rochester on Friday and then returning home on Saturday at 7:05 for Fan Appreciation Night sponsored by Charter Communications.
