MOONDOGS SHINING IN THE SUN

Mankato MN–Projected 2004 MoonDogs closer Philip Springman (Cal State LA) was named as the Wilson/CCAA pitcher of the week on February 9th. This is the first such honor the right-handed sophomore has earned in his college career.

In another of firsts, Springman picked up his first collegiate win in an impressive 1-0 game as the Golden Eagles defeated Vangaurd. In the five innings Springman threw, he allowed just four hits, all singles, and struck out seven. The four hits are the only ones he has allowed in nine innings of work this season, with opponents hitting a mere .176% (4-24) thus far.

In a great weekend for MoonDogs catcher Jeremey McIntire, now with the University of Alabama Huntsville Chargers, McIntire went 3-4 in the second game of the TPX/Louisville tournament, including his first home run of the season. He also drove in four runs on the day.

The UAH Chargers catapulted to the rank of 3 in their division, after previously being ranked 15, in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Poll. In their three game sweep of the tournament the Chargers beat Lynn University Knights on Friday; the then ranked third Ospreys of Northern Florida on Saturday and closed out the tourney with a win over Nova Southeastern on Sunday
