(Mankato, MN)—The Mankato MoonDogs Baseball Club, a member of the Northwoods League, is proud to announce the signing of junior catcher/outfielder Grant Rembert, of Elon University.

Rembert, (6’1” 190 lbs.) hailing from Hickory N.C., is in his first season with the Elon Phoenix, as he spent the previous two seasons at UNC Asheville.

While at Asheville, Rembert showed remarkable offensive talents as he ranked first or second on the team in batting average, hits, doubles, RBI, and slugging. In his freshman campaign (2002), he was named a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American as he led the team in hits (61) and RBI (40), while maintaining a .365 BA.

"Grant is an offensive threat every time he steps up to the plate, and defensively he’s very solid both behind the dish and in the outfield,” said the MoonDogs skipper, Brad Rupert.

This season for the Phoenix, Rembert is picking up right where he left off. Ranking first or second in every offensive category at Elon, with the exception of batting average (ranked 4th), he is first in total AB(101), 2B(8), 3B(2), and RBI(19) and second in hits(30) and slugging(.505%). He is only one of two players to play in all 24 games for Elon this spring and is still shinning defensively without committing a single error.

"From talking to Grant’s coaches, we know he is a real leader both on and off the field and he really showed that ability early in the fall, even though he had just transferred to the Elon program” said MoonDogs General Manager Kyle Mrozek.

Next up for the Phoenix is a three-game home stand against Southern Conference rival East Tennessee State, starting Friday afternoon.

The 2004 MoonDogs open their season in just 69 days, against the Alexandria Beetles on June 2nd. Call or stop by the MoonDogs ticket office today to get your season tickets and never have to miss a single inning of MoonDogs Baseball. MoonDogs Baseball is online at www.mankatomoondogs.com.
