Border Cats Wash Out Beach Party

With a Hawaiian atmosphere surrounding Franklin Rogers Park on Coca-Cola Beach Party Night, the Border Cats from Thunder Bay would wash out the MoonDogs 3-2.

Like last night the MoonDogs would get out to the early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st. Jon Shepard led off the inning with a double and would later score with Tony Gonzalez picking up the RBI.

However, the lead would quickly be erased as the ‘Cats would touch up MoonDogs starting pitcher, Manny Bishop, for 2 runs in the 2nd.

Thunder Bay would get an important insurance run in the 4th to make it 3-1. In the bottom of the 9th the MoonDogs would pick up another run, but fall just short 3-2.

Jon Shepard continued his hot hitting of late going 4-5 on the night with two doubles, a run scored, and a RBI. With his two doubles, Shepard is now tied for first in the Northwoods League in doubles with five on the season.

Minnesota State – Mankato’s own, Kevin Dixon, would keep the MoonDogs in the game after relieving Bishop after 4 innings of work. Dixon pitched 5 masterful innings without allowing a run, giving up just 3 hits, and striking out 6 Border Cats in the process.

Tonight is the series finale against Thunder Bay. It is also Mankato Clinic Night at "The Frank.” Tomorrow night the MoonDogs home stand continues with the La Crosse Loggers coming to town for two games on Tuesday and Wednesday. For tickets call 507-625-7047.
