In an exciting and entertaining game at Franklin Rogers Park Wednesday night, Will Krout, Kevin Dixon and company came out victorious, defeating the Duluth Huskies 3-2.
Duluth didn’t waste any time getting on the board in the top of the first inning, as a lead-off double and then a RBI single quickly made it 1-0 Duluth.
The MoonDogs erased the one run deficit just as quickly, putting up one run in the bottom of the first inning. Aaron Grant’s base-hit drove in Ryan Chiarelli, who led off the inning with a walk.
In the bottom of the third, the MoonDogs struck again with a run when Chiarelli scored his second run of the game on a ground-out by Brian Steinmeyer.
After giving up the one run in the first, Krout put it on cruise control until Duluth manufactured one more in the top of the eighth inning to tie the score, 2-2.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Jimmy Strombach led off with a pinch-hit single and stole second base. With Strombach representing the go-ahead run, Kevin Dixon stepped to the plate and laced a single up the middle that scored Strombach to put the MoonDogs up, 3-2.
Will Krout headed out for the ninth, but was pulled after allowing 2 base runners. With 2 outs in the inning, Scott Sharpe relieved Krout and issued a walk to the only batter he faced. Kevin Dixon took the hill and ended the game in fashion, striking out Gilbert Gil with a 91 mph fastball.
Krout tossed 8.2 innings, giving up 2 runs on 6 hits, walking 1 and striking out 6.
Dixon finished 2-4 at the plate with 1 RBI, the game winning hit and then closed the door in the ninth inning to get the save.
