Aaron Grant’s pinch-hit 2 run single in the bottom of the seventh inning, combined with great pitching by the MoonDogs, gave Mankato a 2-1 win over the South Division leading Waterloo Bucks.

MoonDogs starter Jose Shaw battled through four innings giving up 4 walks and 6 hits, but was able to get outs in key situations surrendering just one run in the top of the fourth inning.

From the fifth inning on, the ‘Dogs bullpen were lights out, as they didn’t surrender a single hit the rest of the game. Scott Sharpe struck out 7 Bucks on his way to 3 innings pitched of no-hit ball.

In the bottom of the seventh, Brad Baker and Barrett Rice led off with back-to-back singles. Both runners moved up a base on a sac-bunt by Adam Frank. With runners at second and third base, Coach Brad Rupert sent up Aaron Grant to pinch-hit for Brady Dolan. With 1,014 fans cheering on, Grant delivered with a base-hit up the middle to score both runs.

Will Krout, making a rare relief appearance, came in to pitch the eighth and ninth innings, giving up no hits, in route to his first ever Northwoods League save.

Scott Sharpe (1-2) picked up the win, his first of the year, in 3 innings of relief.

Barrett Rice went 2-3 with a double and scored the winning run.
