Duluth continued their torrid pace in the second half of the season, by defeating Mankato 2-1, as Huskies starter, Doug Mathis, tossed a complete game.

Mankato took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Duluth responded in their half of the second, scoring both two runs off of ‘Dogs starter Manny Bishop. The first two innings proved to be all the teams needed to score, as both pitching staffs took control and didn’t allow a run the rest of the game.

After giving a first inning run, Mathis found his groove and shut down the ‘Dogs offensive attack, pitching a complete game, giving up 1 run on 4 hits, walking none and striking out 6 MoonDogs.

Mathis (2-1) picked up his second win of the season while Bishop took the loss.

Brian Steinmeyer finished 2-4 with a double and a run scored.

The MoonDogs continue their 5-game road trip in Waterloo with a 2 game series beginning Saturday night and finishing up on Sunday. Mankato returns home Monday, July 26th to face the Alexandria Beetles. It’s MoonDogs Baseball Card Night presented by Hy-Vee and Z99. The first 500 kids 16 and under will receive a free pack of MoonDogs trading cards.
