The MoonDogs came up short against the Border Cats 3-4 Thursday night in Thunder Bay. The MoonDogs, no strangers to one run games, saw their 24th game of the season decided by one run.
The MoonDogs struck first in the top of the second when Kevin Dixon blasted a solo home run off of Thunder Bay starter Justin Jordan. That lead was erased by the Border Cats as they put up a run of their own in the bottom of the second. Thunder Bay took the lead in the bottom of the fourth and added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth putting the ‘Cats up 1-3.
Tony Gonzalez pulled the MoonDogs back to within one run by hitting a double and scoring Aaron Grant. The Border Cats reclaimed their two run lead in the bottom of the 7th, knocking in another run and putting them up 2-4. In the top of the ninth, Kevin Dixon went deep for a second time on the night. Dixon’s second solo homerun, however would be the MoonDogs last run of the evening as Thunder Bay hung on for the win.
Kevin Dixon and Aaron Grant lead the MoonDogs offensive effort. Dixon went the evening going 3-4 with 2 home runs. Aaron Grant finished the evening 2-3 with a double, a walk, and a run.
MoonDogs starter Will Krout went 7 innings giving up 4 earned runs off of 10 hits while striking out 3 Boarder Cats.
Thunder Bay’s Justin Jones went the distance, picking up the complete game win. Jones finnished his outing with 3 earned runs off of 8 hits while striking out 7.
The Boarder Cats Adam Roos went 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI.
The MoonDogs wrap up their series in Thunder Bay tonight. After a two game series in St. Cloud, the MoonDogs will return home Monday Night for "Twins Night" Presented by Jakes Stadium Pizza. Twins Star Lew Ford will be on hand, signing autographs in the plaza from 6-7pm. Wally "The Beer Man" and TC Bear will also be on hand as the MoonDogs square off against he Northern Division leading Duluth Huskies.
