Miller Loses No Hitter, Dogs Lose Game

(6/3/05) For the first four innings of his Northwoods League debut, Mike Miller was on cruise control. Not bothered by the 2600+ fans in Wausau last night, Miller held the Woodchucks hitless through the first four innings.

A lead-off single in the bottom half of the fifth, followed by a broken bunt play, allowed the ’Chucks to not only get on base, but on the board as well. After a sac-fly, the game was knotted at 2-2.

The sixth inning proved to be the back-breaker for the MoonDogs as a lead-off walk, followed by a bunt single and an RBI single gave Wausau the lead. Then a 3-run shot by Billy Grace finished off the scoring and the MoonDogs.

At the plate MoonDogs hitters Ryan Addison and Jon Rupno each had multi-hit games, while the MoonDogs bullpen shut down the Woodchucks offense allowing only one hit while striking out five over the final three innings.

Tonight’s contest between the same two teams will be the last time the MoonDogs play in Wausau this year, as they head to St. Cloud on Sunday, before returning to Mankato for Monday’s Home Opener.
