Loggers Chop Down ‘Dogs
(6/15/05)

The MoonDogs traveled to La Crosse Wednesday night, to take on the hottest team in the Northwoods League, the Loggers. Looking to play spoiler, the ‘Dogs hoped to capture a win and end the Loggers 7 game winning streak. Instead, a tough third inning for the ‘Dogs saw La Crosse plate 5 runs on their way to a 5-3 victory.

The MoonDogs lit up the scoreboard first, putting up 2 runs in the third inning. The Loggers battled back in the bottom of the inning scoring 5 to take a 5-2 lead. Allowing no extra base hits throughout the contest, the Loggers pitching staff shut down the MoonDogs for the rest of the game, allowing just one more run. Josh Schultz garnered the win for La Crosse bringing his record to an unblemished 3-0.

Seven batters had hits for the MoonDogs, led by lead off hitter L.J. Mims. Mims recorded a stolen base, RBI, and a run scored to go along with his 1-4 hitting night. Shane Buschini also drove in one run while going 1-4 at the plate. University of California–Berkley standout, Travis Howell, reached base two out of three at bats by going 1-2 with a walk and scoring one run in the process.

Cameron Young started on the hill for the ‘Dogs, fanning five of the first six batters he faced and nine total batsmen. Bobby Lewton relieved Young in the seventh and continued his dominant pitching, allowing no runs and keeping his ERA at 0.00.

The MoonDogs return home Thursday at 7:05 to take on the Huskies of Duluth. Starting pitcher, Joey Haug, from Maple Woods Community College, will look to improve the MoonDogs record and continue the MoonDogs success against inner division teams (3-1). Thursday is a night for the Ladies to kick back, relax and be pampered, as the MoonDogs celebrate "Ladies Night”. Massages and prizes will be given all game long to that lucky lady.
