Mallards Quack Bigger Than Dogs Bite
(7/6/05)

The Madison Mallards came to Mankato needing just two wins to clinch their division for the first half of the season. In a low scoring affair, the Mallards got win number one as the MoonDogs fell 4-2 thanks to a pair of two run innings by the Mallards.

The Mallards scored two quick runs in the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. The MoonDogs fought back in the sixth inning when Travis Howell and Drew Davis each drove in one run to tie the game at 2-2. But the Mallards proved too strong in the seventh inning when Will Vogl and Mike Rohde hit back to back singles to score two more runs and take a 4-2 lead. Mallard’s pitcher, Erik Walker then closed the door on the MoonDogs striking out six MoonDogs in 3.2 innings while allowing no runs and just two hits in his first win.

Drew Davis led the MoonDogs offense scattering three hits in four at bats with a stolen base and one RBI. Reid Fronk once again played well on the offensive side going 2-4 including a double and one run scored.

Mike Miller started the game for the MoonDogs but injured his wrist in the third inning when a line drive was rocketed back at him. Miller was taken to the hospital but thankfully the x-rays turned out negative. Lance Sewell relieved Miller and threw four innings while striking out five. Derek Tarapacki and Kevin Regan pitched in the last three innings allowing no runs.

The MoonDogs and Mallards meet one last time tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. Tomorrow night is "Beach Party Night” and "Hickory Tech Phone Book Recycling Night”! For tickets call the MoonDogs office at 507-625-7047 or stop by either Hy-Vee location in Mankato.
