MoonDogs Victorious in Duluth
(7/16/05)

Pitching in seven scoreless innings, All-Star Bobby Lewton lowered his ERA to 0.49 as the MoonDogs beat the Duluth Huskies 5-2 in Duluth, Saturday night. Lewton earned his fourth win of the season, staying a perfect 4-0, helping the MoonDogs regain the top spot in the North Division standings.

After a sacrifice fly from Matt Mossey, and a double from L.J. Mims, the ‘Dogs took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning. With runners on second and third, Drew Davis singled to bring in one more run in the inning. The MoonDogs manufactured two more runs in the sixth and seventh innings taking a commanding 5-0 lead.

After his solid outing, Lewton was relieved by Derek Tarapacki in the eighth inning. The Huskies though, were able to score two runs off of Tarapacki in the bottom of the inning to close the gap to 5-2. Not risking surrendering any more runs, Coach Huffstetler handed the game over to All-Star closer, Neil Wagner. Wagner shut out the Huskies en route to his eighth save of the season and the MoonDogs 5-2 victory.

The MoonDogs scattered nine hits throughout the contest led by Mims and Davis. Mims went 2-5 with a double and an RBI while Davis went 2-4 with one RBI and one walk.

Lewton struck out three Huskies and walked just one while his phenomenal 0.49 ERA tops the Northwoods League.
