Thomson’s Performance Not Enough
(7/18/05)

MoonDogs starting pitcher, Brandon Thomson, took the mound against the Thunder Bay Border Cats on Monday night in hopes of helping the MoonDogs rebound off a tough loss on Sunday. Thomson pitched seven strong innings allowing just one run while fanning twelve Border Cats, but it wasn’t enough as the Border Cats kept the MoonDogs off the scoreboard and manufactured four runs to beat the ‘Dogs 4-0.

Thomson came out firing as he struck out six of the first seven batters he faced. It wasn’t until the fourth inning that the Border Cats were able to score a run when Matt Mangini doubled to right center scoring catcher Robbie Johns to take a 1-0 lead. The Border Cats struck again in the eighth inning when the MoonDogs committed two errors that allowed Thunder Bay to score three more runs for a 4-0 win.

Kevin Regan came on in the eighth inning in relief of Thomson and pitched two innings allowing no earned runs and striking out 4 batters. The MoonDogs and Border Cats pitching staffs both demonstrated their control as the MoonDogs had no walks on the night and the Border Cats had just one.

Reid Fronk led the MoonDogs in hitting going 2-3 on the night with one walk. Centerfielder Ryan Addison also had a solid performance going 2-4 at the plate with a walk.
