MoonDogs Blast Past Border Cats
(7/19/05)

Bouncing back from a pair of tough losses at home to the Thunder Bay Border Cats, the MoonDogs returned the favor Tuesday night by beating the Border Cats 8-3 in front of their home crowd in Thunder Bay.

Newcomer Brad Depoy, from San Jacinto, got the nod and took the mound for the first time this season. Going five strong innings, in which he allowed just two runs and struck out five, Depoy was given some early run support when the ‘Dogs scored a pair of runs in the third inning when both L.J. Mims and Reid Fronk crossed the plate.

The MoonDogs scored one more in the fifth before the Border Cats showed some resiliency and tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth. However, the MoonDogs offense proved to be too much, scoring five more times in the 8th and 9th innings.

In their offensive outburst, seven of the MoonDogs starters had at least one hit and seven different MoonDogs scored in the game. Shane Buschini blasted his 7th homerun of the season, tying him for the league lead, and recorded his 38th and 39th RBI. He finished the night 2-5 with a run scored and a two RBI.

MoonDogs catcher Travis Howell was 3-5 with 2 runs scored and an RBI, while Brandon Crawford was 2-4 with a run scored and 2 RBI.

Joey Haug picked up his fourth win of the season coming on in the sixth allowing only 1 run in 3 innings of relief before giving way to the bullpen and closer Neil Wagner to shut the door.

The same two teams continue their battle for first place in the North Division tonight in Thunder Bay as the first pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. The MoonDogs will return home from their 8-game road trip on Wednesday July 27 for Blue Earth County Library Night and Twins Night.
