(Madison, WI) – Mallards starter Ryan Zink (1-0) had a dominant performance and the Mallards (5-3)scored early to take the win over the MoonDogs (3-6), 6-1. MoonDog starter Matt Mossey (1-1) gave up three runs in a tough first inning, which proved to be enough offense for Madison.

For the MoonDogs, right fielder Ben Geelan continued to be an offensive bright spot. He was 1-for-3 and produced the lone MoonDog RBI, scoring catcher Jeff DeSmidt who was also 1-for-3. Starter Matt Mossey went 5 2/3 innings, giving up five funs on six hits while striking out two. Reliever Josh Castanza finished off the game. He went 2 1/3 innings, giving up one unearned run on just one hit while striking out four.

For Madison, second baseman Russell Harben recorded three of Madison’s seven hits, totaling 3-for-4 on the night with an RBI. Designated hitter Neil Medchill delivered the biggest blow of the night to the MoonDogs. He finished just 1-for-2, but managed to drive in three runs on the evening. Making his first start of the season, Zink went six innings, giving up just one hit and striking out eight. Reliever Dan Sorce recorded a save (1). He went three innings to finish the game, giving up one run on two hits.

The MoonDogs are in Madison again tonight to finish off the series. The game will be played at 6:05 pm. The MoonDogs have Sunday off before starting a four game road trip to St. Cloud and Alexandria.
