(Mankato, MN) – The MoonDogs scored three runs in the top of the second inning, and starter Jordan Tiegs (3-4) had a quality start as the MoonDogs went on to defeat the Bombers 3-1 in Battle Creek, Michigan on Sunday night. Tiegs went six innings, giving up one run on six hits.

Left fielder Jaime Armendariz was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI in the game. Designated hitter Adam Abraham and catcher Ben Geelan each singled in the game and each scored in the second inning. Right fielder James Keithley scored the MoonDogs third run.

After Vine’s quality start, reliever Tom Porter threw a hitless seventh inning. Adam Abraham continued to shut out the Bombers with a scoreless eighth inning, and closer Chad Dawson shut it down, striking out all three batters he faced for his eighth save of the season.

The Bombers recorded eight hits, but could only plate the one run in the bottom of the third inning. Left fielder David Sappelt went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Center fielder Nick Jowers also recorded two hits and scored the Bombers lone run.

Battle Creek starter Daniel Britt (0-3) went seven innings, giving up three unearned runs on six hits. Relievers Dan Puls and Drew Mahan shut down the MoonDogs over the final two innings, throwing hitless eighth and ninth innings.

The MoonDogs will finish up their series against Battle Creek tonight. They return home for a two-game series with the La Crosse Loggers on Tuesday. The game will start at 7:05 pm at Franklin Rogers Park in Mankato.
