(Mankato, MN) – For the second night in a row, the MoonDogs (3-5, 20-22) got a solid outing from their pitchers, leading to a 4-2 win over the Battle Creek Bombers (2-6, 17-25) Monday night in Battle Creek. MoonDogs starter Danny Keefe (3-2) went 7 1/3 innings, giving up just two runs on five hits to record the win.

The MoonDogs bats were led by right fielder James Keithley, who was 2-for-3 with his eleventh double of the season and fourteenth steal. He scored two of the four MoonDog runs. Left fielder Jaime Armendariz and center fielder CJ Belanger each recorded an RBI. Catcher Jeff DeSmidt recorded a double and scored once, while shortstop Jason Christian singled and scored once.

Keefe was pulled with one out in the eighth inning after a solid start. Reliever Adam Abraham finished off the inning, giving up one hit in two-thirds of an inning. Closer Chad Dawson shut down the Bombers bats, striking out two of the three batters he faced to record his ninth save of the season.

The Bombers were held to two runs in the game, just three in the series. Left fielder David Sappelt and designated hitter Sean Madigan each recorded multi-hit games. Sappelt was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Madigan was also 2-for-4 with an RBI. Pinch hitter Tony Sanchez recorded a single that led to a run scored by pinch runner John Lee for Battle Creek’s final run.

Bombers starter Mike Takashima (1-4) went eight innings, giving up three runs on six hits. Reliever Phillip Myers gave up one unearned run on one hit in the top of the ninth inning before Eric Lawrence came into finish off the inning.

The MoonDogs return home for a two-game series against the La Crosse Loggers Tuesday night at Franklin Rogers Park. The game starts at 7:05 pm and features free logo baseballs for the first 400 kids 16 and under, courtesy of MinnStar Bank.
