MoonDogs Ink Two Junior College Standouts

Mankato, MN)–The Mankato MoonDogs Baseball Club, a member of the Northwoods League, is proud to announce the signing of two players for the 2009 season. Sophomore infielder Edgar Molina of Southwestern College (Chula Vista, CA) and sophomore infielder/outfielder Lance Ray of Western Nevada College (Carson City, NV) have committed to play for the MoonDogs this summer.

Molina, a 6’0” 190 lb. sophomore from San Ysidro, CA, has started all 38 games at first base for the Jaguars who are 26-11-1 on the season. He has helped pace Southwestern offensively, ranking first in doubles (12), second in home runs (5), RBI (40), stolen bases (13), walks (17), and third in batting average (.376) and runs scored (39).

"Edgar is a plus defender, who also has tremendous plate discipline and can produce in multiple facets of the game,” said MoonDogs manager Mike Orchard. "He is a high character guy who will be a tremendous asset to our team.”

Ray, a 6’1” 188 lb. sophomore from Las Vegas, NV, has started 43 games for the Wildcats this year, seeing time in the outfield and at first base. He is currently leading Western Nevada in multiple offensive categories including batting average (.389), hits (58), doubles (15), home runs (8), RBI (41), stolen bases (19), walks (30), and runs scored (42). Western Nevada is currently 32-12 on the season, and ranked #13 in the NJCAA Division 1 rankings. Lance recently verbally committed to the University of Kentucky (Lexington, KY), and plans to play baseball for the NCAA Division 1 Wildcats next year.

"Lance has a big time bat, and is putting up huge numbers for a high level program in a wood bat league,” said Orchard. "He has a plus makeup, is highly successful both athletically and academically, and someone we are really excited to have on our team.”
