MoonDogs Sign Two Pitchers

(Mankato, MN)–The Mankato MoonDogs Baseball Club, a member of the Northwoods League, is proud to announce the signing of two players for the 2009 season. Sophomore pitcher Jacob Petricka of Indiana State University (Terre Haute, IN) and freshman pitcher Danny Jimenez of John A. Logan College (Carterville, IL), have signed on to play for the MoonDogs this season.

Pertricka, a 6’5” 185 lb. sophomore from Faribault, MN, has been one the leading pitchers for the Sycamores this season. In 11 starts he has a 7-1 record with a 3.39 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 66.1 innings pitched. Indiana State is 33-15 on the season, with a stellar 15-4 record in Missouri Valley Conference play, good enough for first place. They are currently ranked #26 in the Collegiate Baseball Division 1 Poll.

Jimenez, a 6’3” 215 lb. freshman from St. Charles, IL, had a great first year for the Volunteers. In 12 starts, he compiled a 6-2 record with a 2.01 ERA and 94 strikeouts in 89.1 innings pitched. He threw six complete games, including one shutout, and opposing hitters recorded just a .213 average against him. John A. Logan finished 31-21 overall, with a 13-11 record in Great Rivers Athletic Conference play.

MoonDogs Announce Home Opener Guest

The Mankato MoonDogs are excited to announce that former Major League All-Star pitcher, and Minnesota native Jerry Koosman will be the featured guest for the home opener. An Appleton, MN native, Koosman pitched 19 seasons in the Major Leagues, playing for the New York Mets, Minnesota Twins, Chicago White Sox and Philadelphia Phillies during his career. He won a World Series with the "Miracle Mets” in 1969, and was an All-Star in 1968 and 1969. Jerry won 222 games during his career, racking up 2,556 strikeouts in over 3,800 innings pitched. The New York Mets inducted him into their Hall of Fame in 1989. Jerry will be on hand at Franklin Rogers Park to help kick off the 2009 season, where he will throw out the first pitch, and be available to sign autographs for fans. The MoonDogs are very excited to bring Jerry Koosman to Mankato, and are looking forward to a memorable Home Opener 2009.
