Alexandria, Minn. – The Alexandria Beetles snapped a four-game Mankato MoonDog win streak, as they used a two-run fifth inning to defeat the MoonDogs 2-1 Monday evening at Knute Nelson Field.

The MoonDogs (12-6) jumped in front of the Beetles in the third on the bat of Nick Judkins (Iowa Central). Judkins brought home Troy Larson (Minnesota) for the MoonDogs only run.

Alexandria (8-10) scored both of their runs in the fifth, as Mike O’Neill (Southern Cal) and Marcus Semien (California) brought home the only two runs the Beetles would need.

Jake Petricka (Indiana State) took the loss for the MoonDogs, falling to 0-2. He pitched six strong innings, striking out four and allowing six hits. Mitch Handley (North Alabama) recorded the win, throwing seven innings and allowing just five hits.

The Minnesota duo of Kyle Knudson and Larson had four of the team’s six hits, posting two apiece. Matt Alexander (Air Force) had three hits for the Beetles while Sean Olenek (Mercer) scored a run.

The MoonDogs will return home for the next six days, as they start a lengthy homestand with the Green Bay Bullfrogs. Alexandria is in the midst of a five-game home stretch, as they will take on Thunder Bay tomorrow. First pitch from Mankato will be at 7:05 while first pitch from Alexandria will be at 6:05.
