Mankato, Minn. – MoonDogs middle infielder AJ Pettersen has earned yet another honor for his stellar spring at Minnesota. Pettersen was named to Baseball America’s First Team Freshman All-America squad it was announced this morning, June 30th.

Pettersen was named to the team as a shortstop, as he has played both short and second for the MoonDogs this summer. For the Golden Gophers this spring, however, Pettersen batted a robust .353 with two home runs, 45 RBI, 65 runs and eight stolen bases. His efforts helped to lead the Gophers to a second place finish in both the regular season and postseason portions of Big Ten play.

It was far from the first honor for Pettersen this season, as he also earned Freshman All-America selections from the NCBWA, PING! Baseball and Collegiate Baseball Magazine. On the conference front, Pettersen was Second Team Big Ten and the All-Freshman selection at shortstop.

Pettersen is currently hitting .310 with nine runs, four RBI and a sterling on-base percentage of .408 for the MoonDogs, who just won the North Division’s first half title on Monday.
