Mankato, Minn. – Pitcher Ryan Demmin (Minnesota State University, Mankato) proved why he was a post-season all-star going seven and one-third strong innings, scattering three hits and striking out 12 men.

A crowd of 2,011 looked on as Demmin and pitcher Chase Joiner (University of Memphis) combine to shut-out the Rochester Honkers for the first win of the season. Center fielder Jose Perez (Kishwaukee CC) drove in the games only run with an infield single with one out in the fourth.

A relay by Perez to second baseman Justin Hauer (Black Hawk JC) cut down a run at the plate that would have tied the game in the top of the seventh. Catcher Bobby Jacobs (Penn State University) took a blow from a Honker on the play but was able to hang on to the ball to record the out. Demmin took home the player of the game award for his outstanding performance.

Twins legend Tom Kelly was also in the crowd to open the season. Kelly signed autographs and threw out the first pitch of the game. Afterward fans stayed in their seats to see a fireworks show.

The MoonDogs return home Wednesday, June 9th to take on the Thunder Bay Border Cats. It is Magnet Schedule Night presented by TCF Bank and The Fan. The first 1,000 fans receive a free 2010 MoonDogs magnet schedule.
