(Mankato, MN) – The Rochester Honkers defeated the Mankato MoonDogs Tuesday as Danny Winkler (Parkland College) shut out Mankato by a score of 5-0.

Winkler and the Honkers were dominant from the get go, allowing only two hits, including a double to Robby Ort (Indiana State) and a single to Danny Miller (Minnesota State). Winkler didn’t allow a hit after the second inning, and retired 22 of the final 24 batters he faced.

The Honkers pounded out 10 hits, including three from third baseman, Devin Thaut (Paradise Valley CC) who raised his average to .356. Making his season debut, Danny Pulfer (Oregon) hit third and recorded two hits, was hit by two pitches, while driving in two runs.

With the win the Honkers improved to 12-8 and moved within a half game of first place, while the loss puts the MoonDogs record at 9-10, and they trail the first place St. Cloud River Bats by three games. On Wednesday the MoonDogs will head to Alexandria for three games, getting the nod for game one will be Blake Schwartz (Minnesota State, 1-1).

The MoonDogs return home for two games starting Saturday, June 26th against the first place River Bats for Dora the Explorer night, presented by Charter Communications. The next night is Think Pink Night where players will be wearing pink jerseys that will be auctioned off throughout the night, and the proceeds will go to a local Susan G Komen team.
