The Mankato MoonDogs Baseball Club, a member of the Northwoods League, is proud to announce the signing of two players for 2011 season. Outfielders Cody Ferrell from Seminole State College (Seminole, Okla.), and Chris Ross from the University of Montevallo (Montevallo, Ala.), have committed to play for the MoonDogs for the 2011 season.

Ferrell, a 5-foot-11-inch, 194-pound sophomore led Trojans this spring in batting average (.367), on-base percentage (.474), stolen bases (20), and tied for the team lead in home runs (8). A freshman for Seminole State in 2010, Farrell hit .354 with five doubles, a triple, and five home runs.

"Ferrell is a guy that can play multiple outfield positions for us this summer”, said MoonDogs Field Manager Mike Orchard. "He is a guy with good speed and good power that will hit in the top to middle of the order for us.”

Ross, a 5-foot-10-inch, 180-pound junior finished this spring leading Montevallo in batting average (.405), hits (64), doubles (16), on-base percentage (.503) and tied for the team lead in stolen bases (12). Ross was recently named Second Team All-Peach Belt Conference after finishing in the conference ranked first in on-base percentage, second in batting average, fifth in doubles and ninth in slugging percentage.

"Ross is a lead-off type of guy that, like Farrell, has great speed” said Orchard. "He is great in the field. He is one of those guys that, with his speed, thinks he can run down any fly ball.”

The MoonDogs home opener is scheduled for Wednesday, June 1 at 7:05 p.m. against the Rochester Honkers will feature special guest Paul Molitor. Season and single game tickets are now on sale at the MoonDogs office located at 1221 Caledonia Street.
