Duluth Minn.- The Mankato MoonDogs used a late inning rally to defeat the Duluth Huskies 11-9 Monday night for their sixth straight win.
Mankato trailed 9-8 entering the 8th inning before a power outage at Wade Stadium caused a 20 minute delay. When play finally resumed Blair Moore (San Diego St.) tied the game up with a sharp double down the right field line driving in Shaun Cooper (Utah) for his eighth RBI of the season. Two batters later Matt Reida (Kentucky) belted what proved to be the game winning hit, a double, down the right field line, driving in two more runs to give Mankato an 11-9 lead.
Reida led the team offensively Monday night going 4-6 with 3 RBI. Matt’s impressive night at the plate bumped his average up to .259 on the season.
Starting pitcher Kyle Richter (USC) struggled in his second outing of the season, lasting just two innings, but the bullpen pulled out the win for the MoonDogs as fellow Trojan, James Roberts (USC) picked up his first win of the summer, throwing 2 2/3 innings in relief allowing just two runs. Nick Goody (LSU) picked up his second save of the season, striking out four Huskies batters in two innings of work.
Both teams will be back in action Tuesday night as Blake Schwartz (1-0) makes his second start of the season for Mankato.
