Mankato, Minn.- The MoonDogs squashed the Alexandria Beetles Monday night, 9-2 at Franklin Rogers Park. The offense was clicking on all cylinders once again, and this time around James McDonald (Arizona St.) led the offense going 3-for-5 from the plate, with an astounding three doubles, and a run scored. Sam Selman (Vanderbilt) was on the mound for the ‘Dogs and came away with the win, pitching 5 2/3, giving up four hits, one run and striking out 10 Beetle batters.

Shaun Cooper (Utah) has carried the MoonDogs offense all season, and continued to do so Monday night. Cooper, hit another home run Monday night bringing his season total to 12, tying Shane Bushini for the MoonDogs career all-time home run record. Bushini played for the MoonDogs in 2005 and 2006.

Matt Reida (Kentucky), who was 1-for-3 during the game, hit a triple in the second inning that tied current MoonDog Shaun Cooper for the MoonDogs record of triples in a season. Cooper then subsequently reset the season triples record in the seventh inning with a hit to deep right-center field, bringing his season total to four.

Reida’s triple in the second jumpstart the MoonDogs offense as they scored five runs in the second inning. Reida scored on a two-run home run by Brennan Moore (Texas Tech). Then Cooper hit his 12th home run of the season, a solo home run to left-center field.

The MoonDogs now head north of the border to Canada and will square off against the Thunder Bay Border Cats in a three game series. The MoonDogs then return home, Friday, July 15th for a short two game series against the Willmar Stingers before the All-Star break.
