Battle Creek, Mich. – The Mankato MoonDogs fell to the Battle Creek Bombers 13-0 on Friday Night at C.O. Brown Stadium. The Bombers’ pitching shut down the MoonDogs offense, scoring no runs on three hits.
Once again the Bombers offense was on all cylinders, scoring 13 runs. The Bombers had seven extra-base hits in the game, three doubles, two triples and two home runs. Jordan Dean (Central Michigan) led the Bombers offense, going 3-for-6 with a double, a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Matt Mazzoni (Fresno Pacific) suffered the loss for the ‘Dogs on the mound. He pitched 1/3 of an inning and gave up six runs on three hits. Matt Dearden (Indiana) was the winning pitcher, shutting down the MoonDogs hitters pitching five innings and giving up three hits and no runs.
The loss wraps up the memorable season for the MoonDogs. The 2011 team is the best in franchise history, setting a team record for wins in a season (42), producing the Northwoods League MVP (Shaun Cooper) and Pitcher of the Year (Blake Schwartz), celebrating the 10th season of MoonDogs baseball in Mankato, a North Division title, the first franchise playoff win(s) ever, and a new Northwoods League single season home run king (Shaun Cooper, 20 home runs).
