MANKATO, Minn.–The Mankato MoonDogs Baseball Club, a member of the Northwoods League, is pleased to announce the commitment of infielder Nick Ratajczak along with pitcher, Kyle McGrath to play for the MoonDogs in the 2012 season.

Ratajczak, a 5-foot-10-inch, 180-pound junior from the University of Louisville is currently hitting .349 in his first season with the Cardinals. Ratajczak transferred to U of L from Gulf Coast Community College where he was named the Panhandle Conference Defensive Player of the Year for 2011.

The Joliet, Ill. native is expected to remain at second base for the MoonDogs this summer.

"Nick will be a great addition to the team he’s not only a good second basemen, but he’s also a contact hitter. We expect him to play everyday and be at the top of the order,” said field Manager Mike Orchard.

McGrath, a 6-foot-3-inch, 220-pound sophomore from U of L is currently redshirting for the Cardinals after transferring from Eastern Kentucky University. McGrath was able to strike out 35 batters in just 45 innings played for the Colonels.

"After redshirting, we look forward to bringing Kyle onboard. He’ll have a fresh arm that will be capable of playing all summer long,” said Orchard.

The MoonDogs home opener is scheduled for Friday, June 1 at 7:05 p.m. against the St. Cloud Rox at Franklin Rogers Park.
