MANKATO, Minn.—The Mankato MoonDogs suffered their second consecutive loss to the Alexandria Beetles Wednesday at Franklin Rogers Park, losing 4-6.
The MoonDogs appeared to have the game on their side after piecing together three runs in the first inning, but quickly lost momentum. The slow and steady approach worked well for the Beetles notching a run in the second and fifth inning to cut the MoonDogs lead to one.
MoonDogs reliever, Trevor Belicek (Texas A&M Corpus) entered the game in the sixth inning, but struggled early on, walking two batters while allowing one hit. The lefty gave up four runs in the inning as the Beetles broke the game wide open to take a 6-3 lead. Belicek settled down after facing just six batters in his final two innings of work.
Offensively the MoonDogs were led by Blair Moore who went 2-3 at the plate with a pair of singles and a run scored.
Beetles reliever, Steve Weber (Eastern Michigan), entered the game in the bottom of the first inning with two outs and recorded a ground out to leave the bases loaded for MoonDogs. This very well could have been the turning point in the game as the 6’6” right-hander would toss 5 1/3 innings of shut out baseball, allowing just three hits.
The MoonDogs, who have lost three of their last four games, will look to redeem themselves Thursday against the St. Cloud Rox at the Frank at 7:05 p.m. It is Scooby Doo Night presented by Charter Communications. Scooby Doo will be available to sign autographs and pose for pictures. Single and season tickets are on sale at the MoonDogs office located at 1221 Caledonia Street.
