MANKATO, Minn.–The Mankato MoonDogs Baseball Club, a member of the Northwoods League, is pleased to announce a 3-0 shut out against the Rochester Honkers Sunday at Franklin Rogers Park.
With the ZOOperstars! in attendance to perform their trademark entertainment, the Frank was packed to cheer on the home team. The ZOOperstars! put on a Class-A performance, but it was the MoonDogs who truly performed.
MoonDogs starter, Seth Webster (Nicholls State), who has had a slow start this summer, turned his game on pitching nine scorless innings. The right-hander gave up just three hits, while striking out eight Honkers. The Louisiana native relied heavily on his defense forcing 15 ground ball outs, while throwing just 81 pitches, 60 of which were strikes. Webster, is the first of the 2012 MoonDogs pitching staff to toss a complete game shutout.
With the MoonDogs already leading 1-0, outfielder Craig Massoni (Chabot College) led off the inning with his second home run of the season to make it 2-0 ball game. The MoonDogs would add an insurance run in the seventh inning after a Chris Munoz (Oklahoma City) lead-off single. Munoz would advance to second on a throwing error and ultimately would score on a Chase Simpson (Oklahoma) single, Simpson’s his first RBI of the year.
The MoonDogs head to Mayo Field Monday for the 7:05 p.m. start. The MoonDogs will return to the Frank Wednesday to start a three game series against the Duluth Huskies. It is Ladies Night Out and Diamond Dig presented by Sav Mor Jewelry, all ladies will get in free of admission.
