Rochester, Minn- The Mankato MoonDogs won their fifth consecutive game Monday night, defeating the Rochester Honkers in a slugfest, 11-6 at Mayo Field.

Trey Nielson (Utah) lead the offensive attack, finishing the night a triple shy of the cycle. The MoonDogs third baseman drove in four runs, going 3-for-4 at the plate en route to his first Northwoods League player of the night honors.

The Mankato offense jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, on a Chase Simpson (Oklahoma) single and two Honkers errors, but would find themselves trailing 3-2 heading into the top half of the 5th. With two outs already in the inning, Cody Ferrell (Oklahoma City) was hit by a pitch and Chad Christensen (Nebraska) walked to bring Nielson to the plate. The Utah Ute smashed a double to deep right-center field, driving in both runners to give Mankato a 4-3 lead.

The MoonDogs would add an additional run in the top of the 6th inning, but Honkers right-fielder Tim Zufall (Oral Roberts) would tie the game up on a two-run homer, in the bottom of the frame.

Tied 5-5 heading into the 7th, Mankato once again turned to Nielson for some offensive fire power. With Christenson on base and one run already in, Nielson added two more runs with a laser shot home run over the left-field wall, in what proved to be the deciding run of the game.

Adam Mott (New Mexico State) earned his first win as a MoonDog, allowing five runs on nine hits over six innings. Reliever Derek Howell (Louisiana-Lafayette) picked up his 3rd save of the year, delivering three strong innings out of the Mankato bullpen.
