MANKATO, Minn.–The Mankato MoonDogs Baseball Club, a member of the Northwoods League, is pleased to announce a 3-1 victory over the Duluth Huskies Wednesday at Franklin Rogers Park.
After an hour rain delay MoonDogs starter, Zach Hall (Parkland), took the mound in his first start of the season. The Southpaw tossed 6.1 innings, allowing just one run on five hits, while striking out eight Huskies. Hall’s only blemish came in the sixth inning after Huskies DH, Michael Suiter (Kansas) blasted a homerun over the left center field wall.
The MoonDogs were led offensively by Zach Luevanos (Lamar) who went for 2-4 at the plate. Kyle Turner (Missouri Baptist) also went 2-4 with a double and a run scored. Chad Christensen (Nebraska) was hitless against the Huskies, but drove in two of the three Mankato runs. Christensen now has 11 RBI this season.
The ‘Dogs have now won seven consecutive ball games and now lead the North Division by two, with Waterloo being rained out for the second straight night.
After the tragic flooding in Duluth, the MoonDogs will be taking three dollars from each ticket sold and donating it to the Red Cross Relief Fund for Thursday’s game. The MoonDogs will also be accepting donations throughout the game and will have a Launch A Ball fundraiser to raise extra funds for the Red Cross.
The MoonDogs finish their three game series against the Duluth Huskies Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at the Frank. It is Mankato Idol night featuring the previous American Idol contestant Shelby Tweten. The North Mankato native will be singing a few tunes, along with signing autographs and taking pictures.
